My Carp Hunters Weekend
Jerome “Whitey” Voigt
14–16 November – De Ben, Pniel (near Barkley West)

When Carp Hunters announced that our next social competition would be held from 14 to 16 November at De Ben in Pniel, I was ready. What I wasn’t ready for… was the thorns.

Now let me explain.
We were basically fishing in open veld on community property. Before you could even think of putting a chair down, you had to take out your spade and rake just to clear enough space to stand. Every step was a negotiation with a thorn looking for a fight.
Add constant rain, mud, and thunderstorms into the mix… and you can picture the battlefield we fished on.

But you know what?
For the love of fishing — we pushed through.
The Venue & The Weather
Despite the challenges, the venue itself was beautiful. Clean, peaceful, and full of potential — even with the non-stop rain that came down the entire weekend. The storms didn’t give us much rest, but Carp Hunters isn’t a club or a formal team.
We’re just a bunch of Kimberley anglers who love to fish together.
We host four socials a year, and this one was our 10th competition — open, friendly, fun, and full of laughs.

That’s the whole spirit of Carp Hunters:
no pressure, just fishing, friendship, and fun.

The Fishing
Despite the conditions, the fishing treated me well.
I started the weekend with a fish of 2 kg, and by Sunday I ended off with a 3.25 kg carp — a solid upgrade considering the weather.
Across the weekend I landed:
🎣 2 Grasscarp
🎣 3 Small Carp
🎣 1 Bigger Carp

And through all of this, one thing stayed constant:
Magic Baits came through. Again.
Most of my fish came out on FBI Mealies and Oorlog Large Hard Floaties.

Rain or shine — and believe me, we had more rain than shine — Magic Baits kept producing.
When conditions get tough, most bait struggles…
But Magic Baits doesn’t.
It works when you need it the most.
A Bit of Appreciation
In the photo with me is Mark, the organizer of the competition — a great guy and a big part of keeping Carp Hunters running smoothly.
And from my side…
Thank you, Michael Cato, and the entire Magic Baits team.
You keep the Magic alive.
Your bait has never failed me — even in the worst fishing weather.
Magic Baits isn’t just a product;
it’s confidence in a bottle.
