Behind the Name

The name Stinkgogga was born from a light-hearted moment in the Magic Baits factory. While a batch of BVX (Butter Vanilla) Boldip was being filled, my wife suddenly commented that she smelled a ‘stinkgogga’ — an Afrikaans term for a stink bug. Laughter broke out as everyone tried to understand how Butter Vanilla could possibly smell like that!

However, both my wife and our colleague Willie saw potential in the name. My wife suggested we create a product using garlic and fish oils, coloured British army green. Although I was sceptical at first — wondering who would want to fish with such a murky-looking bait — I decided to make a test batch.

To my surprise, the results were phenomenal. The Stinkgogga Boldip quickly climbed to the top of the Top Sellers list within its first month, and it has remained an essential flavour in every angler’s tackle box ever since.
