Exploring Kareepan Dam for the First Time

On Sunday, 21 September 2025, I had the privilege of fishing at a completely new venue for me—Kareepan Dam.

As always, my day started with preparing my feed. I added a dash of Magic Baits Cypri Liquid Carp Food Feed Booster to the maize mix, just to give it that extra punch. This product mimics natural carp food perfectly and never fails to trigger a proper feeding frenzy. I like giving my feed a bit of time to mature while I get my gear ready, so that’s exactly what I did.

When the horn blew at 06:00, the session began. Since this was unfamiliar water, I had no idea what would work best. But I quickly spotted fish tailing around 65m out, in fairly deep water. That’s where I clipped one rod, while leaving the other on open spool to explore.

On my 65m setup, I went with Magic Baits Small Soft Vampire Fluoro Bleeding Floaties on both hooks, adding a tiny piece of Magic Baits Plain Chooby beneath the bottom floatie for balance. On the bomb, I gave Magic Baits DCX Muti a chance to prove itself. I didn’t hold back either—putting a bold stripe of DCX together with a heavy splash of Magic Baits Smoky Spray, practically flooding the ball in flavour.

For the open spool rod, I kept the same hook baits but decided to switch up the dips. With the warmer weather in mind, I tried Magic Baits Honey Glow Muti, pairing it with Magic Baits GTA Boldip—a combination I had a good feeling about.

Throughout the day, my Wizzard Quik-Set nr. 2 hooks held strong, and I didn’t lose a single fish. By the time we wrapped up at 14:00, I had managed to land 11 beautiful carp, totalling 13,70kg for the session.

It was a fantastic first experience at Kareepan Dam, and once again Magic Baits proved why it’s my go-to choice. Their quality products made all the difference.
